About me
I was born with a pencil in my hand
Just kidding. But I have been drawing since I was two years old. And like all Brazilians, for some reason I love pirates, and ships, and sails, and stuff.
We moved to the U.S. when I was just about 9 years old. We lived in San Francisco for 5 years before we packed up and moved to be closer to grandma and grandpa in San Antonio, TX.
Great artists seem to have a core belief or view of their world
And they take that view—or belief—and use it as a lens through which their art / designs emerge from.
It really hit me when reading about the late Mitsuo Katsui’s designs and how he sees the interaction of light and man. Looking at his designs I don’t particularly see that connection, but it doesn’t matter.
It’s the idea that allows him to express his designs in his unique way.
Likewise, there were some chefs in Season 1 of Chef’s Table that had a central belief or memory that fueled their creativity. And I’m on a hunt to find more of these points of views.
And long story short, having that epiphany spurred me to think of observations I’ve made in life and use them in my design decisions.
Like all designers—I wear many hats
Throughout the years I’ve been a mentor, creative thinker, facilitator, project manager, creative director, comic relief, illustrator, motion designer, and brand designer.
But currently...currently I’m wearing my tired-dad hat.
The trait I’m most known for, according to my co-workers
Exploration. Fitting, since I do like pirates (the romanticized version) and to me, they represent freedom and adventure.
